Proving that you can do the work of a home child care provider or a home support worker is essential to the approval of your work permit if you are applying from outside Canada and if you do not have the required Canadian caregiver work experience.

Canada is a beautiful country with a strong economy and a high standard of living. It is on the top 5 English speaking countries where people from around the world will love to immigrate to. Although the minimum educational requirement for this pathway is 1 year post secondary school education, people with more advanced degrees such as BSc, MSc are also applying to it. Even Medical doctors, nurses, engineers etc

How can you prove you can do this job?
Although it varies according to province, the standard requirement to be able to land a caregiver job in Canada is
1. Police vulnerable sector check
2. Personal Support worker, continuing care aide, home support worker certificate
3. First aid and cpr training

1. Take an online Caregiver course
Lets talk about the home support worker training. Since many people will be applying from outside Canada, how do you get this training or an equivalent training?

There are lots of short online courses that you can register for and pay a small fee for a certificate at the end of the training.

CLICK HERE for a list of interesting caregivers courses from Joseph Academy in the UK. There's an interesting array of short online, self paced courses there to suit any taste & discipline.

2. Volunteer your services as a caregiver
This is particularly important if you do not have prior work experience as a caregiver.
You can volunteer at a daycare, special care home or nursing home to learn hands on what the caregiving industry is all about.
I did a 6months volunteer health care aide job with a hospital in my city, i assisted the nurses in patient management duties such as taking vital signs, emptying urine bags, personal and oral hygiene, etc

3. Get first Aid Certified
There are many companies that offer first aid and cpr (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) training. Most emoloyers will value a first aid training obtained from Red cross. I did my first aid training with red cross.
